13 Movies That Get Me In The Halloween Spirit

13 Movies That Get Me In The Halloween Spirit

The best things about October is Halloween (obviously) and the scary movie marathons that come with it. Horror flick junkies, like me, get to enjoy 31 days of binging on classic thrillers, campy teen horror flicks and supernatural films that keeps you up at night. Here's my list of spooky thrillers that'll give you the creeps all month long. Scroll if you dare.

Scare Scale:

  1. Family Friendly
  2. Nail Biting
  3. Jump Scare
  4. Scream Out Loud
  5. Forget About Sleeping Tonight

1. The Faculty (1998)

If you take the typical 90's drama where the cast includes a new girl, jock, emo loner chick, bad boy, nerd and popular girl and throw in an alien invasion, you'll get The Faculty.

2. 30 Days of Night (2007)

I truly enjoy horror films, so it takes a lot for me to actually get scared. With that being said, the first time I saw 30 Days of Night I could not sleep. It was definitely scary but not to the point that I could never watch it again. I can't remember how many times I've seen this movie since watching it in theaters in high school. On the plus side, Josh Hartnett's beautiful face chases the nightmares away (but no like he's really pretty.)

3. The Strangers (2008)

The Strangers is brilliantly terrifying, in that it does not rely on the supernatural to make you scream. The fact that it is based on a true story and could very well happen to anybody, makes it all the horrifying.

4. The Conjuring (2013)

If you do not like to be scared, do not watch The Conjuring. This movie has all the ingredients for a scary movie: possession, a haunted house and evil entities. Warning: watch in a large group...not alone!

5. Wrong Turn (2003)

Wrong Turn starts off with a group of friends who's car broke down in the middle of nowhere. Nowhere happens to be the home base of mutated cannibalistic humans.

6. Hocus Pocus (1993)

Hocus Pocus is a Disney movie. That alone should tell you scaredy cats it's safe enough to watch. It is fun and family friendly. Seriously who hasn't seen this movie yet? It's a Halloween classic.

7. The Craft (1996)

When the high school's outsiders tap into some serious supernatural powers, adventure ensues. The Craft is the perfect movie for a Halloween sleepover with the girls.

Scare Scale: 2 out of 5

8. House of Wax (2005)

House of Wax is so cheesy and I love every bit of it. The movie stars Paris Hilton for crying out loud. It's so bad, it's good. I discovered my deep love for Chad Michael Murray while watching this in my freshman year of high school and he makes the movie great...at least he did for me.

9. Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)

Clearly I'm deeply infatuated with Josh Hartnett, seeing as how he's starred in three of the movies on this list. Nonetheless, you can't have a list about Halloween movies and not include the movie with the holiday's name in it's title. H20 is one of those movies that brings me back to my childhood. That is why it made my list over the 1978 version, plus... Josh Hartnett.

10. Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Freddy Krueger is by far one of my favorite horror movie villains. I think the film's concept of the villain existing mainly in your dreams is brilliant and makes him even more terrifying because you cant escape sleep. The original gives us a young Johnny Depp in a crop top and that's everything I never thought I needed. I will say this, the 2010 remake was just as great... sans a young Johnny.

Scare Scale: 3 out of 5

11. Carrie (1976)

This movie is a classic. I seriously wished I had telekinetic powers after I saw Carrie. Not that I planned on using it in the same way Carrie White did, but the powers would definitely support my lazy habits.

Scare Scale: 2 out of 5

12. The Ring (2002)

I saw The Ring in the 7th grade and I legit thought I had seven days to live. This movie was great because, at the time, it was different from any horror film I've ever seen. You couldn't run from this villain.

13. IT (2017)

Because IT is still in theaters, all I'll say is this, go watch it. IT is terrifying, funny and exciting. However, I wouldn't recommend you watch IT if you have a fear of clowns. Just don't.
